Website Design 2014: Things to watch out!

Posted by on 4 February 2014

It would be absolutely unfair to make review that, 2013 has not been a productive year for web design industry. With so many innovative design ideas, and modulations over the websites; we can certainly rectify that visitors have experienced more of balanced and steady website platforms. Significance in 2013 would be some brilliant exclusion on website development. Huge strides in the field have done immensely good for both website owners and visitors. Nowadays, we can see websites compatible for computers, smart phones, and thanks must be given to the initiator of this formula.

What would be the best thing for web design service in 2014 is still a mystery for us. However, there are few aspects that we have to consider getting ahead in web design service, and stay as the revolutionary industry of the current era!

Resolve the Slicing Problem

If you have been working as a web designer for years, then you must have faced few issues regarding the distinction between the front end development and web design. Web designers have to rely on few major tools related to Sketch or Photoshop, and developers have to extend the design service into reality with programming and develop the website while getting assistance with text editors.

The common workflow has experienced so many attempts in order to resolute this issue including Dreamweaver, SiteGrinder and Adobe Muse as recent edition. Any of these applications hasn’t been successful to resolute the common issues, and they end up having their own issues to resolve. Therefore, they didn’t get the appreciation from web designers and developers and have not been adopted widely.

At all instances, developers of front end either have to go with the old policy of getting into the website development or web designers work on the alternative ideas to make websites compatible for well known web browsers. Closing the functionality gap between the browser and website has been the main challenge for designers and developers all around the world. To offer good news wouldn’t be a vague term as most of these tools have been reshaping or modifying by professionals to proximate the distance. Macaw is one of these tools that have been released on the motive of resolving the long awaited gap between the front end developing process and web design.

All these tools can offer great benefits due to the adaptation of flat colors in web design with less predictability over the repeat of design elements and textures. These designing elements are known to be less complex than any of the heavily encrypted with image based elements few years back. Therefore, it’s known to be the best stage for introducing functional tools to generate semantic, well organized code automatically.

Automatic JavaScript – Top of Wish List

We haven’t seen any compatible “WYSIWYG” formatted JavaScript development work beyond the basic widgets. The main reason is the declarative language used in both CSS and HTML while the JavaScript is formatted the programming language. JavaScript has a canvas regulated with a text editor. Such canvas for HTML format is designed as the document.

Fewer Graphics Shots in PNG Formats

As most of the popular web browsers have adopt themselves with latest features, mobile phones have been faster than ever; screens have turned as unpredictable, and web designs have been continuing to change its module. Therefore, we have been experiencing a complete change in the format of web design. Website with less  of images is the basic form, and UL elements in a complex pattern are relying into CSS, and things that can’t be regulated with CSS. Here, the possible solution is to work with SVG. If we think of any primary exception, the photography should be enlisted first. As we know that, most of the large sized images always claim to cover maximum design space, most of the web designers have decided to work transparent imagery to put emphasis towards the content for embossing the whole scenario.

SVG on roll

So many wonderful examples have already popped everywhere on the web; it’s quite obvious that SVG has already showed its prime target. In this year, we certainly expect of having some accessible tools to create basic ones without having hassles. We can also hope for effective, educational tools to expose the power and potential of SVG towards the users who haven’t figured out the real gem of SVG usage.

Flebox and its Adoption

Even after knowing the fact that, Flexbox will remain as the non-standardized, no-man’s land; there have been lots of support staffs across various web browsers. We haven’t seen the adoption of Flexbox for common reasons, but we strongly believe that this year will be the time when the developers will go deeper.

Full srcset adoption – Haven’t seen the full exposure

We haven’t experienced a solution of retinal image that would cover full adoption. Even though, Webkit has been working with srcset, developers have been working tirelessly to resolve this issue with more of a convenient way. It’s not deniable that, srcset will become useful; thus, most of the web developers will go for large sized images while saving them as lower quality formats.

Video-Oriented Web Design with Overloads

We do remember the popularity gained by Parallax during their earlier stage of marketing. Professionals loved using it because they found the way of telling stories and enhancing the user’s experience. It’s not unrealistic if you go with videos as part of designing elements (for example, as background) than using as part of theatre experience that we see in YouTube.

This has been running around for a long period of time. It gained tremendous level of popularity over the years, but it has become successful as part of commercial ventures recently. With so many challenges upfront like based on video size, quality, and compression of videos will be on the list of prime motive.

Responsive and Animated Icons

Animated elements are not new thing for web design. A logo with animated format or any other icons has gained popularity over the years. Animation with SVG can be incorporated with CSS. Projects such Iconic has raised their target almost 6 times on KickStarter. Open Sources like Climacons have showed promises in terms of offering user friendly web design on the path of animations.

Second Screen Adoption

Last year, we saw TV shows had offered a complete “Second Screen” experience. Thus, it has offered a deeper way of interact the watchers while presenting the content. Another progress we have been watching is the reach of mobile phones at the lower end market where the connectivity number has increased with impressive stats.

Adopting the second screen can extend more formats and shows to get more watchers than ever. Features like having sync of mobile phone with computer while seeing a popular TV show on Netflix or Hulu. Expecting a connection on your smart phone with the gaming device or console to get secondary information we act or see in the screen.

This can’t be regulated as regular format of web design service. The concept of the design area has changed a lot, and it will only progress further while modifying the contemporary way of content design. Web designers have to consider stepping in a detailed approach for obtaining success towards the secondary attention where the role for “Accompaniment” gets fulfilled instead of using the main stage.

Mobile Optimization

Responsive web design has been a dominant method for web design. In spite of handling the necessity of technology-supported web designs and coding, most users have been continuing to strive more into devices irrespective their using purposes. Hence, mobile optimization has become a great challenge for web developers and designers as well. Developing codes that would deliver in a small package, build media query, utilize caching, achieve high frame rates, and other considerations for taking significant investments.

So the expected change in 2014 will be the adaptation of many frameworks to get into the mobile optimization process entirely. It will cross over the obstacles to create high performance websites where the technology use would be minimal but good enough to receive thousands of leads every day. Coding libraries such as Zepto.js, Hammer.js, Animate.css and others are to revolutionize the idea and get going.

As we have already got to know about HTML5 and its adoption by the industry, it’s quite predictable to adopt widely for the betterment of mobile optimization practices that would go beyond CSS queries.
